The Technology Tip of the Week will be a short weekly message to all members of the Arlington community, offering ideas on organizing, planning classes and using the Arlington Network software. Some suggestions may be specific to Arlington High School but many will be applicable to any computer user.

Tip #1: Changing the Default Homepage on NetscapeÒ  

Definition:
Default Homepage: The page that will appear on screen when Netscape is launched.

1. Open Netscape by double clicking on the icon.
   
   
   
   

2. Most homepages on the network appear as the one above. Locate your favorite appropriate page for your machine. Remember: The Default Homepage stays with the computer workstation, not your ID!

3. For my choice, I am using Arlington High School's website:
   http://www.arlingtonschools.org/ArlingtonHigh/AHW.html

4. Launch the site so that your screen displays the page you wish to make your default:

   
   
   

5. With the page loaded, choose Edit, Preferences... You should see the following box:

   
   
   

6. Click on the Use Current Page button and the Location field will be updated. Now click the OK button. From this point forward, anyone launching Netscape on that particular computer workstation will have this site as the Default Homepage.
