Grading programs have been in our District for many years and this week's Technology Tip of the Week will be the first in a new series dedicated to this software type. Because this software is usually of the dual-license variety, you can create settings at work that are identical to home without fear of having a different version in these two locations.
Tip #34: Grading Programs--Part I: Personalizing Reports in Grade Machine®
DEFINITIONS:
GradeMachine/GradeQuick: Student information databases in the form of "grade programs" are rampant and two are supported at the secondary level. GradeMachine, supported at the middle school and GradeQuick at the high school allow teachers to record various grades, weight then in accordance to the department curriculum and report out to other teachers, administrators, parents and students.
Preferences: A preference is a default setting in a program that will save the user from repeating work. Some preferences include default font style and size, return address information, author, and printer information.
Dual-license: A software agreement whereby a user in one location (usually work) may have the right to use a second copy for personal use (usually home).
Personalizing Reports: When printing a report for guidance, a parent or student, it is always a good idea to personalize it. This brings a clearer connection between the report's author and the subject of the report - your student. Since most of the reports are similar, it also makes the report's origin clearer to the reader.
To personalize a report:
Click on Style and select General Report Prefs... as shown below.

In the Teacher's Name: box, type your name as you would like it to appear on the report. See below.

Be sure to preview the report before printing. Your name and school will appear at the top.
