INFORMATION FOR PARENTS AND STAFF

MRSA (STAPH INFECTIONS)

There have been a number of reports in the media concerning Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infections.  Staph is a type of bacteria that is normally carried on the skin and in the noses of healthy people.  The MRSA strain can become resistant to certain antibiotics, making it harder to treat.  Fortunately, no cases have been reported in Dutchess County that are related to schools.

We are making sure that preventative measures are being taken in our schools, particularly with our athletes.  Students are reminded to use good hygiene practices and to take the following preventative measures:

  1. Wash hands often, use hand sanitizer when soap and water is not available
  2. Shower immediately after participating in games or practice.
  3. Keep cuts and scrapes clean and covered with bandages
  4. Do not touch other people’s cuts or bandages
  5. Do not share personal items like towels, razors, or sports equipment

We have been in communication with the School Physician and Dutchess County Department of Health.  Please be assured that we are committed to providing a safe and healthy school environment for our students and staff.
