Sex Offender Notification

Local law enforcement agencies periodically notify the School District if a Level 3 sex offender has moved into the district boundaries.  These individuals have served their sentences, but are monitored by probation agencies because they are deemed to be a high risk for re-offending.

When the district becomes aware of an imminent threat, such as an attempted abduction or when notified by police about a potential danger, we will distribute that information to the following:
1. Principals, teachers, and staff at all schools
2. All school bus drivers and transportation personnel
3. PTA officers
4. Arlington website and school newsflashes (where available)
In addition, when the school district is made aware of potentially dangerous situations or individuals, letters will also be sent home with elementary and middle school students. Please check your child’s backpack regularly for these and all other school notices. When appropriate, we will also discuss potential threats with our students.
Remember that the best protection we can provide to children is to teach them about personal safety. Most sex offenders are not strangers, but persons known to a child.

In an effort to improve communications about the presence of level 2 and 3 sex offenders registered in our communities, we direct you to the following websites:
Dutchess County Website
Town of Poughkeepsie Police
NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services
The Dutchess County Sheriff's Office also has a program called Offender Watch that allows residents to sign up for e-mail alerts when a registered sex offender moves into the neighborhood within a one-mile radius of their homes.
